Tell us a bit about The Beauty Bar and how you got
started?
* The Beauty Bar is a beauty salon based in Eastbourne
offering a range of treatments from manicures, pedicures,
waxing to face and body treatments. The Salon has three
treatment rooms as well as a dedicated nail area at the
front of the Salon. The Salon opened its door three years
ago, it all came about after I decided that I wanted to take
on a fresh new challenge. I have worked in the beauty
industry for over 16 years, travelling the world to gain
a wealth of knowledge and experience directly related
to the beauty industry. I wanted to create a beauty salon
that encapsulated everything I have learnt from my years
within the industry and bring this to my hometown of
Eastbourne. The Beauty Bar has a monochrome theme
with Hollywood influences and is strongly inspired by
iconic female role models such as Audrey Hepburn and
Marilyn Monroe.
What sets you apart from other salons?
* At The Beauty Bar we pride ourselves on delivering a
personalised service with high-quality treatments in a
relaxed environment, one that is fully inclusive and
comfortable for all. This is something I felt was especially
lacking within the local area.
We also believe in using ethically sourced products
with natural and botanical ingredients within the
salon, that offer results driven treatments for our
clients. Our choice of product brands that we use are
heavily influenced by the current climate of society
being more aware of where and how their skincare
and bodycare is sourced and produced.
What does a typical work day look like for you?
* I alwyas start with a morning meeting with our
beauty therapist Katie to go through the daily plan
- coffee is essential. We then open up and set up
treatments ready for the busy day ahead. We typically
complete a range of different treatments each day
for our clients, which is great as this keeps our day
varied and always interesting. Our manicures/pedicures
tend to be one of our most popular treatments
at The Beauty Bar at this time of year, or as we call it
‘flip flop season’. Our nail art is especially a hit with
our clients as we have a huge range of glitters, stamps
and designs to choose from. I’ll leave the salon anywhere
from 7pm-8.30pm as we offer daily late night
bookings. I arrive home to do some paperwork with
a cuppa and my guilty pleasure ‘love island’.
What is your favourite part of the job?
* Defintely doing a treatment that makes a real
difference to a client whether this is being made
more relaxed, more confident so they feel better
about themselves or making them feel special. Sometimes
we have clients that come in struggling with
the stresses that life can offer, and I can do a treatment
in which the results make the client feel relaxed
and like themselves again. Being able to help my clients
to feel this way and see them smile, rejuvenated
and happy is the most rewarding part of the job.
What is your best advice for any women wanting to
start their own beauty salon?
* To have a strong, clear vision of what you would
like your salon to look and be like. Don’t be afraid to
make the leap and stand up for yourself to make that
vision become a reality. Having a solid plan and clear
focus from the outset of what treatments I wanted
to offer, what brands I wanted to use, the look and
feel of how I wanted my salon to be, really helped me
when it came to taking the final leap into opening
The Beauty Bar. The most important part is to enjoy
it and remember the original reason you wanted to
start your beauty salon. I always say “I love it every
day, maybe not all day every day, but at least once a
day”.
