Sundays are for one thing and one
thing only - ROAST DINNERS
This roast dinner review saw us
head to the Wheatsheaf inn, in
Willingdon.
The roast dinners are just £13
each and they have 5 options to
choose from. Those choices are
loin of pork, sirloin of beef, roast
ham, lamb shank served with
mint or red wine gravy and also a
vegan nut roast. All roast dinners
are served with roast potatoes,
yorkshire puddings, seasonal veg
and gravy.
We decided to go for the ham
roast dinner and also the lamb
shank roast dinner.
If you can believe it, this was
actually our first ever ham roast
dinner. We know - what a sheltered
life. And boy have we
missed out! The ham roast dinner
was absolutely delicious and
we loved every single bite of it, in
fact we could have eaten another
one straight afterwards which is a
tall order after a roast dinner and
that doesn’t often happen. The
ham was so flavoursome. It might
just be our favourite roast dinner
meat.
The lamb shank was also
fantastic and the meat was nice
and tender. The red wine gravy
that came with it was delicious
and there was loads of it, which
we like very much. The roast potatoes
were cooked to perfection.
Crispy, but not too crispy that the
potato inside was non existent.
Also the parsnip was amazing -
we’re obsessed with parsnips and
this was a good one. The cheesey
cauliflower was also perfect - so
full of cheeseyness and went really
well with the roast as a whole.
We don’t see a lot of roast dinners
served with red cabbage anymore
and we don’t know why as this
just added another flavour into
the mix which was delicious.
Absolutely loved it.
Of course we had to have a
pudding - for research purposes
of course, This was just the perfect
way to top off our Sunday lunch.
We had the treacle sponge with
vanilla ice cream and also the hot
chocolate fudge cake with custard.
The last bite nearly finished us off,
but it was worth it and we were
ready for the post roast dinner
nap.
The Wheatsheaf was a great find
and a fantastic roast dinner, with
great service.
Also worth noting that The
Wheatsheaf Inn is dog friendly
which is also a bonus if you have
well behaved dogs (we do not -
think scrappy doo as a chihuahua)
and if you don’t have your own
dogs you can go and make friends
with the ones in there.
