In this fresh comedy drama, Zara and her bridal party escape their Birmingham council estate for a wild hen do in a remote Welsh cottage. However, their revelry takes an unexpected turn when a global catastrophe hits. With supplies dwindling and survival know-how lacking, the group must breach quarantine and explore the post-apocalyptic Snowdonia. Starring Lucie Shorthouse, Elizabeth Berrington, Callie Cooke, Lauren O’Rourke, and Kate O’Flynn.

This docu-drama utilises the Colosseum to vividly recount the Roman Empire’s tumultuous history, focusing on the lives of those who battled within its walls. Through expert interviews, dynamic re-enactments, and captivating special effects, the episode brings to life the riveting stories of these individuals, shedding light on the empire’s ascent and decline.

Anita and Kris Martincic have dreamed of warehouse-living in the buzzing inner city. So when a 100-year-old derelict building known as the Newtown Hat Factory came on the market, they jumped on it.

Saturday 19th August
BBC1; Mulan, 6.40pm
Starring Yifei Liu and Donnie Yen, this Disney live-action remake features a courageous twist. As China faces invasion, the Emperor commands one man per family to defend the nation. Yet, with her ailing warrior father, dauntless Hua Mulan chooses to disguise herself as a man, assuming his role and bravely fighting for her country’s sake.

Sunday 20th August
BBC2; The Power of the Dog, 10pm
“The Power of the Dog,” a 2021 psychological drama, reimagines the Western genre. Written and directed by Jane Campion, it adapts Thomas Savage’s 1967 novel. This Oscar-winning film stars Benedict Cumberbatch, Kirsten Dunst, Jesse Plemons, and Kodi Smit-McPhee. It follows a charismatic yet overbearing rancher who launches a campaign of intimidation against his brother’s wife and her son. However, the unveiling of concealed truths shifts the dynamics significantly.
