7 tips for working from home rn
1. Get dressed
We don’t mean full office attire for working from the dining table. But at the very minimum – get showered and pop on some fresh PJs. We’ve been working in gyn gear for pretty much 5 weeks now, but that doesn’t mean that we don’t get showered and put on a full face of make-up – that one isn’t compulsory, we just like make-up.
2. Set up a work area
It doesn’t have to be a separate room, but having a specific work area will help you when it comes to switching off at 5/6pm or whenever your working day ends. This will make it easier to transition into your down time.
3. Stick to a food schedule
We have found over the last 5 weeks, that we have gotten way better with our eating. In week one we were having breakfast at our desk at 10am, then lunch at 4pm and then we weren’t ready for dinner till like 9, which was ridiculous. Now we make sure to have breakfast before we start work.
4. Take Breaks
Just like you would in your office (well not all the time), but take breaks. Enjoy your lunch break in your garden if you’re lucky enough to have one. Take 10 minutes mid morning. Don’t stay at your desk for the full working day.
5. Organise
We now have quite extensive to do lists with times next to them. Otherwise we end up faffing with one thing all day long, when, if we set an actual time and didn’t procrastinate – it might have just taken one hour. We also like ticking things off – ha ha!
6. Hide the computer/ laptop
Put your laptop away at the end of the day! Not to be looked at again until 9am the next morning. It really is so tempting to keep checking back on an unfinished project or check to see if an email has been responded to. Resist, don’t do it. Appreciate the time for you.
7. Don’t be too hard on yourself
We are all navigating a very strange time in the world right now and we’re all a bag of emotions. Don’t feel like you’re the only one feeling them. We’ve only really gotten our motivation back of the last week or so and even that has been pretty hard work. Some days you will feel like a hero and you’re to do list will be fully accomplished and other days you may struggle to finish a mere 20% off of your to do list. It’s ok!
