Last week we invited Martyn Blackmore from Thousandoaks pet behaviour down to help us with our yappy little Oreo.
Martyn is aqualified pet behaviourist and is able to help you out with dog training or behaviour problems. We needed Martyn’s help for both really, or so we thought – turns out we just had a spoilt little chihuahua.
The problems we had with Oreo were:
** barking constantly when guests entered the house
** She wouldn’t drink water unless it was mixed in her food
** Not listening to the boss when anyone else was around
** Barks at all dogs she passed on the doggy walk – yet still wagging her tail
** Fence chasing with next doors dog
Within 5 minutes of Martyn being in the house – he already had Oreo listening andpaying attention to him. Treats were left all over the floor and Oreo wouldn’t touch them until she was allowed. This is the greediest dog in the world – so a pretty massive achievement – she’s been to the vets for eating all sorts – protein bars with the wrapper still on – macaroons in handbags and kit kats from the dining room table. As for not listening to the boss lady – it’s like she’s a whole new dog. She’s been doing so well and when she clocks food on the street she stays away when told. After that it was time to train Oreo at the front door – first attempt Oreo got it. So that was another problem sorted. The fence chasing with next doors dog – sorted. The not drinking water – sorted – although that really was the simplest one – do not put water in her food she will drink eventually. The barking at other dogs is a work in progress, but that is something that we have to work on whilst socialising her a bit more, although 100 times better when she is off lead.
All in all a very successful afternoon. We would definitely recommend Martyn. He also offers a puppy/dog matching service to make sure that you get the right dog for you, which we will be using very soon as another puppy is very much wanted.
