** Lunch menus are no longer available with this company – however they are still available for corporate lunches and events – so go and check them out**
I was recommended a local company who make fresh, healthy lunches that are delivered straight to your desk. Starting to get bored of the same old soups or sandwiches, I thought I would give them a go as I was looking to try something different, healthier and varied.
Clean plates is a small Eastbourne based company with an ethos on local and healthy, all the food and packaging is source locally and used to produce catering for local events and also their ‘lunch time deliveries’. You can order lunch delivered direct to your desk at work and home either daily (Mon-Fri) or weekly, with the menu varying day by day, week by week with some favourites returning at various times. The lunch consists of a bottle of water, a piece of fruit of your choice and a box containing whatever delight has been made that day. You then get the option for the lunch to be ‘vegan’, vegetarian’ or ‘carnivore’ or if you are feeling lucky select ‘surprise me’ and you will get a variation during the week. The week’s menu is usually posted on the web site on a Saturday, which you can view here, so you can choose in advance which lunches you would like to be delivered.
I trialled this service from Monday 8th to Friday 12th June with the ‘surprise me’ option & had the following lunches:
Monday – Fire Roasted Red Pepper Pesto with Courgette ‘spaghetti’. (Chicken Strips)
Tuesday – Pea and Asparagus Risotto
Wednesday – Sweet Potato, Spinach & Coconut Tart with Salad & Vinaigrette.
(Tart in collaboration with another local company ‘Beautiful Ugly’)
Thursday – Roasted Za’atar carrots, Pear Barley and Olives. (Pork Strips)
Friday – Puy Lentil Salad with Coconut and a Honey Ginger Glaze with Toasted Almonds.
I have to say every lunch I trialled was delicious, a good size portion that left me wanting more, not because I was still hungry but because it was sooo nice. My favourite dish was the fire roasted pepper which had a great combination of the Courgette ‘spaghetti’ with the Pesto. I also loved the Roasted Za’atar carrots, and not being a big fan of olives or barley I was surprised how nice the whole meal was as they complimented one another.
The only meal that was not as good as the others was my final meal on Friday (perhaps spoilt too much during the week), the Puy Lentil salad with coconut and ginger glaze. I am a big fan of ginger and felt this dish lacked the punch I was expecting, but having discussed this with the owner Jason, he will look to improve this recipe.
That is another great thing about this company, they have a friendly and helpful service and feedback is welcomed, if there is something you do or don’t like about the recipes then tell them, they welcome the comments so they can improve the recipes for future lunches to ensure all their customers are left wanting more.
