We chat with the couple behind the local brand Pudding by Post
We don’t know about you, but during lockdown we became OBSESSED with a new business called Pudding by Post. If you haven’t heard about them and you love brownies, brookies, cakes , bronuts, blonuts, blondies and so much more – you NEED to get yourself down to Londis on Grove Rd ASAP, pick your faves and enjoy. Honestly they taste incredible – you won’t be disappointed. We go every Thursday/ Friday to grab a treat for the weekend. We love the treats so much, we had to chat to the couple behind the brand – Jamie and Rosie.
1. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and what you did before Pudding by Post?
My name is Jamie and I am the baker behind the Pudding by Post products. I’ve worked as a pastry chef for over 12 years and I love it. I feel I really learnt to enjoy my trade when I worked as a head pastry chef at the Langham Hotel in Eastbourne. It was here that I feel that i really grew my knowledge, it’s also where I met my partner Rosie; the other half of PBP. Rosie has worked in hospitality for 10 years and her roles have always been customer facing. Rosie controls all our social media and she also replies to any customer enquiries and together we are constantly thinking of new flavours and puddings to bring out for our lovely customers.
2. What made you start Pudding by Post?
We started PBP in the first lockdown. We where both furloughed from our regular jobs and we had a lot of time on our hands. I made and few treats and we delivered them to friends and family as a little surprise. It was then that Rosie suggested we should look into starting a small little side business during lockdown to pass the time and make a little extra income. We never expected it to grow as much as it has and we will be forever grateful.
3. Why a sweet treats business?
It made sense to start a sweet treats business as that is the area that I have the most knowledge.
4. How did getting your products in Londis come about? Do you think having your products stocked in Londis has helped your customer base to grow?
We were approached by a lady who works alongside the owner of Londis. She had been a regular customer of ours and had tried a few of our puddings. She told us that Londis were looking for small local businesses that they could stock in their shop and asked if we would be interested and then rest is history! I remember the first ever time we stocked anything in the shop and the whole night before me and Rosie were so worried that nothing would sell. We stocked our 1 shelf with 40 pieces thinking it would last a good few days. We quickly realised it was nowhere near enough and we now supply Londis with between 800 – 1000 pieces a week. Stocking our products in the shop has helped us massively as it has been a base for people to go and try out our products.
5. Will you be expanding the business in general?
We are always looking at ways in which we can expand our business and hopefully, soon, we can share some exciting news with everybody.
6. Will you be stocked in anymore local stores?
In the next few weeks our products will be available to buy in a Londis in East Grinstead and we are also working towards getting our products stocked in Hastings at Doms Food Mission Hub and all puddings from there will be helping the charity too as a percentage of all sales from here will go straight to charity.
7. What’s next for Pudding by Post?
Coming next for PBP is hopefully something very exciting that we can share with you very soon – fingers crossed. 8. We always try to evolve our products. We have the firm favourites that everyone loves and then we also try to switch up the flavours. We are constantly adapting different recipes and seeing what works best and in what way.
We asked on Instagram if anyone of our readers had any questions for you and these were the most popular
Can you re-stock Londis more often? LOL
We can’t stock Londis up any quicker than we already do, as much as we would love to. We currently stock Londis on a Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. We bake everything fresh the day before restock and we get it straight out and in the shop the next day. Sometimes it fly’s out that day and sometimes there’s a few puds left.
Can you please dedicate a whole shelf to Biscoff products?
A whole shelf dedicated to Biscoff products isn’t actually an unreasonable request. Everybody loves Biscoff.
Quick fire round …
Bronuts or Blonuts – For Rosie Blonuts and either for myself
Your fave treat that you make? Rosie doesn’t have a sweet tooth as crazy as that sounds, so she doesn’t really struggle regarding stock. I love to try everything before it goes out.
How do you not eat all of your stock? Luckily for me, like i’ve already said we bake everything one day and the next, it’s all gone to Londis. So thankfully the temptation isn’t there. I don’t have a favourite pudding that I make. I love getting creative with birthday cakes and I like to make things with lots of layers.
Brookie or Blondie?
Blondies for Rose, especially the white choc & raspberry ones. and brookies for me.
