Movie of the week: The Art of Racing in the Rain
We were excited to see this movie because there was a dog in it and then after watching the trailer we realised that the whole movie is shown from the point of view of the dog – which made us want to go and see it even more. What we did not know was that it is a well known book and also it was written by the guy who wrote Marley and Me, so we didn’t realise what kind of emotional roller coaster that we were in for.
As mentioned the movie is all from the dogs perspective – that dog being Enzo – who just so happened to love racing cars and really wanted to be reincarnated as a human in his next life. It follows his relationship with his owner (Denny Smith) and then how life changes when Denny falls in love and starts a family. From the very first scene, we were crying and we won’t tell you anymore as we don’t want to spoil the movie.
It was heartwarming and absolutely devastating at the same time. All we wanted to do was go home and give our dogs a cuddle.
This movie wasn’t just a tear jerker it was an absolute puddle maker. Sobbed like we’ve never sobbed before. Left feeling ever so slightly devastated and cried for most of the afternoon.
We cried more that The Lion King and that is saying something!!!
Having said that, if you loved the book or love a dog movie it is worth the watch, just bring tissues and some sunglasses to cover your face afterwards.
