Mary Poppins: The only movie to watch this Christmas break
Is it a re-make?
Nope, its a new Mary Poppins, but follows on a fair few years after the first one. It sticks to the same story per se, but it’s a teeny bit different and Mary Poppins comes back to help with Michael Banks kids. He is having a really tough year and is in a financial pickle and is in HUGE need of some help. It’s a fabulous movie for all the kiddos to watch as well as the grown ups.
Who plays Mary Poppins?
Emily Blunt. We sure you already know that, but just incase you missed it. You’ll also find Colin Firth and Meryl Streep and a little visit from non other that Dick Van Dyke himself.
4 reasons to watch Mary Poppins –
1. Full on nostalgia
For all of you who grew up with Mary Poppins you have to go and see it. We loved it as kiddos and we loved it when we saw it last week. We may have shed a tear, we might have wanted to clap at the end (we didn’t though) and we just left the cinema feeling so happy. It’s great to see the return of familiar characters (although not played by the same actors). Mary Poppins talking umbrella also made an appearance as did her magic bag.
2. The uplifting music
We knew all the songs from the last movie, but having watched as a child, we didn’t realise what the songs actually meant we now think that Mary Poppins holds the secret to happiness (we’re kidding), but the music was uplifting and positive.
3. To see Dick Van Dykes performance
We didn’t know that he would be making a cameo in this movie, but he does and he makes you smile! We really can’t say ANYMORE on his performance as we will give it all away.
4. The whole Mary Poppins cast is amazing
Emily Blunt did a good job and we didn’t hate her as Mary Poppins – even though we do think the original Mary was better. The Banks kids were great, as was Colin Firth as the baddy and Meryl Streep as Mary Poppins cousin. We should probably also mention – Lin-Manual Miranda – because he was AMAZING.
