Imagine practicing Yoga or Pilates by the beach, with the soft sounds of the ocean and the fresh sea breeze surrounding you
The Natural Fitness & Therapy Centre offers you exactly that. Ideally located on Royal Parade, right on Eastbourne Beach, the Centre offers both a variety of fitness classes and a wealth of complementary therapies. The benefits are obvious. Being able to practice Pilates and then go straight for an Aromatherapy Massage, or follow a Yoga class with an Acupuncture appointment means you can fit more into your busy life.
Established in Eastbourne for over 17 years, the Centre has found that by offering a wide variety of class times for both Yoga and Pilates, as well as having several different teachers, means it is much easier to find a class that ‘fits’ your needs.
Tracy Fuller, Nutritional Therapist and owner of the Centre told us a little more about what the Centre offers.
Over the past few years we have found that we are getting more and more younger members in class, as Eastbourne attracts younger couples and families. With a younger generation we are finding that issues such as ‘tech neck’, caused from overuse of electronic devices such as smart phones, iPads and laptops, are becoming common. The relaxation of Yoga and the stretching and lengthening exercises of Pilates can both help alleviate the discomfort associated with these modern conditions.
Pilates will also work the deep core muscles in the stomach and this helps to achieve the toned and flat stomach we all desire. Likewise, it provides a balanced workout that simultaneously targets all of the muscle groups.
In addition to assisting the retention of joint movement in advanced years, and providing rehab after injury, many younger women (and men!) use Pilates as part of their fitness regime. It is a well-rounded workout and offers the kind of conditioning that a regular gym session cannot. The stronger you become, the better endurance you can generate. Increased muscular strength also reduces the likelihood of injury. Practising Pilates also gives the body greater flexibility, as Pilates postures will help to lengthen and stretch the muscles. It’s slow and controlled nature also helps to maintain and indeed can improve joint mobility.
Yoga & Pilates can be a good distraction from other stresses you have in your life, as well as a fun way to meet new people and make new friends. Pilates requires full concentration, you have to be immersed in the exercise. Your breathing and body has to be completely in sync to ensure you get it right. That leaves no room for a lapse in focus and means the concentration you bring to Pilates distracts your mind from other problems, such as work, exams & relationships.
The influence of celebrities has contributed to the awareness of Pilates as a form of exercise, with many sports professionals, celebs and reality TV stars regularly attend Pilates classes and indeed members of the Royal family.
