Last Wednesday saw us head on down to Henry’s Bistro on Seaside Road. This review was a readers request and we are so glad that we were asked to review the place, it’s an absolute gem.
It’s tucked away, blink and you’ll miss it, however inside is so cute and cosy you’ll never want to leave.
The menu is definitely different from anything else we’ve ever seen. It’s a nice change from italian or the usual burger and chips. The prices are great and they offer set price menus for those want 2 or 3 courses. We suggest you have 3 courses – everything is AMAZING! Also they have a separate menu for grills, for those not so adverturous.
We started off with was sweet potato – which I think on the menu was called sweet potato cakes. When you go to Henry’s you need to try these.
Next up we shared Korean BBQ pulled chicken nachos. If we could have had 3 courses of just this we would have been more than happy. When we saw nachos on the menu we were thinking mexican nachos – we were very pleasantly surprised when these came out. Everything about these nachos was absolutely perfect. They were quite spicy, but not too spicy and lime sour cream was the perfect accompaniment.
Now on to the mains – this was the Vietnamese caramel salmon fillet served with purple sprouting broccoli and asparagus. It was the best salmon that we had ever tasted, cooked perfectly and the sauce was something else. We were glad that we didn’t opt for a side of rice or potato as this was pretty filling in itself. We want this again, just seeing these pictures is making us sooooooo hungry.
Also for the less adventurous – there was a butterflied chicken and chips option, which was lovely with the Korean BBQ sauce. You definitely need to try that sauce. The chips are also a must have
Now onto the puddings – we were ridiculously full by this point, but we didn’t want to miss out on the pudding – that’s the best part right? We decided to go for banoffee pie and sticky toffee pudding. We quite liked the way the banoffee pie came out of the kitchen (pictured above). It’s not your traditional pie all pieces are separate – it was however – good so so good. We guess that’s why it’s called the deconstructed banoffee pie.
Next up was the sticky toffee pudding. which as you’d expect – absolutely fantastic. After we ate it all we were feeling pretty full – and then the below ended up on our table. Home made fudge. We only managed one piece each, which was also lovely, but we were just too full.
We highly recommend Henry’s Bistro. The owners are so lovely and they were always on hand for a drink top up and to make sure we had everything that we needed. All the food was presented beautifully and tasted amazing, it also didn’t take long at all to be served and going from one course to another was spot on timings wise.
