It’s a bittersweet moment for the Hailsham community as Bucklers Café, a much-loved local favourite, announces its closure after seven memorable years. In a heartfelt letter posted on Facebook, the owner reflected on the journey that began in May 2017, when opening a new café in a town already rich with coffee spots felt like a risk—but one that quickly proved incredibly rewarding.
Bucklers Café became more than just a coffee spot; it evolved into a warm and welcoming community hub. Known for its lively tapas nights, music events, and extensive gin offerings, the café became a cherished gathering place where both locals and visitors could relax, connect, and celebrate.
The owner expressed gratitude to the loyal customers who made Bucklers thrive and to the dedicated team who poured their passion into every aspect of the café. “I have countless cherished memories… from our incredible tapas nights, music events, and, of course, all the gins!” reads part of the letter, capturing the nostalgia and love that filled Bucklers over the years.
While this is a goodbye for the current owner, there’s hope for Bucklers’ legacy to continue. As they look ahead to new opportunities, they’ve left the door open for potential new ownership, ensuring the café’s spirit may live on in Hailsham.
Bucklers Café’s closure marks the end of an era, but the memories, friendships, and community spirit it fostered will be felt for years to come. The Eastbourne Lifestyle team and the community at large extend a heartfelt thank you to Bucklers for the joy, comfort, and warmth it brought to Hailsham.
