5 Cheap and Easy Ways to Refresh Your Home
Hands up if you’re drawn towards the home section of every store like a moth to a flame?! With so much home inspo filling our social media feeds, it’s impossible not to sit and dream of the endless interior transformations we could make… But not all of us have unlimited funds to spend creating a luxury interior. Here are five cheap and easy ways to refresh your home, without those expensive price tags.
1. Ditch the Junk
De-cluttering is key if you want to refresh your home. Be ruthless. Get rid of anything you don’t need and junk that’s lying around on counter tops. Start by creating two piles: keep and throw. Once you have organised what you want to get rid of, decide what could be gifted to charity and what just needs to go to the tip. Any items you just can’t bear to part with, find a real home for. This could be inside a storage unit, under the bed, or if it is an ornamental piece pop it on top of your chest of drawers. Simply de-cluttering will make your rooms look bigger and better.
2.Upcycle Your Furniture
If you have any furniture that is looking worn and tatty, upcycling is one of the cheapest ways to give them a fresh new look without having to fork out for new items. Why not give them a fresh lick of paint in a new colour? Dark furniture can make a room look drab and dated – why not pick a bright white or cream and give your furniture a new lease of life? Be careful though – you will need to sand down wooden pieces before you pick up the paint brush, and the type of material affects the type of paint you buy, so check first!
3.Update Your Soft Furnishings
Replacing your soft furnishings and accessories is a great way of giving a room a whole new feel without breaking the bank. Add a pop of colour to your interior with new cushions, throws, curtains, vases or lamps. To create a sense of luxury, buy materials such as suede and velvet – they are super soft and snuggly which is perfect for the winter weather! New curtains are also a great way to totally transform your room on a budget, opt for a pretty pattern or bold colour to give your space a new lease of life.
4.Pick Up A Paint Brush
Don’t worry, you don’t need to redecorate your whole room! Why not pick one wall and make it a feature? Feature walls are a simple but high impact way to refresh any room. One tin of feature wall paint will not break the bank but will totally change the look and feel of the room. If you want to add more texture or pattern, why not pick a pretty wallpaper instead? Choose wisely – don’t pick any random wall to make your feature. It should ideally highlight the focal point of your room – think around the mantel piece, where your bed’s headboard sits or where the TV is.
5.Create a Gallery Wall
If painting is not your thing, create a feature using wall art or pictures instead! Buy frames of different shapes and sizes (these can be sourced pretty cheap), pop your favourite photos in and get creative. The great thing about a gallery wall is you can make it work in pretty much any space – hallway, living room, up the stairs, you name it! The key is to arrange them in a way to suit your space. If you are creating a gallery wall up the stairs, it is important to line your frames so they follow the same angle of your staircase. In a more traditional space such as a living room wall, try placing larger frames in the centre of the display and surround them by smaller frames to create a focal point.
